China's sealing materials industry has scored landmark breakthroughs in recent years. In December 2025, a domestic research team earned China’s first approval for civil aviation sealant and matching primer, ending 60 years of full import dependence for civil aircraft maintenance sealants. The breakthrough secures supply chain safety for China's civil aviation and lays a solid foundation for independent development of domestic large aircraft like the C919.
In industrial manufacturing, Chinese firms have broken multiple foreign monopolies. A Sichuan-based enterprise fully localized core rubber seals for high-end oil and gas well control equipment. A Beijing research institute developed high-performance abradable seal coating for aerospace engines, boosting equipment efficiency by 1% and cutting energy consumption by 1.5%, solving a long-term bottleneck for advanced manufacturing.
Driven by booming demand from new energy, semiconductors and aerospace, China’s sealing materials market hit 219.5 billion yuan in 2025. The sector is accelerating transformation towards high-performance products, intelligent manufacturing and integrated solutions, with rising global influence. The 27th International Friction and Sealing Materials Exhibition held in Hainan drew participants from 32 countries and regions, marking a 20-year high for cross-border industry exchanges.
